October 2023

Say not ye, there are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold I say unto you, “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. John 4:35

Harvest has indeed looked different this year. With the absence of sugar beets and addition of lots of beans and corn, the timing is different as well as the look of it. Most likely this has changed a lot of the patterns a farmer might have gotten very used to. Some aspects are better, and I suppose, some cause challenges never dealt with before.

In this passage, Jesus is getting people out of what they think, to realize what truly is. When it comes to the harvest of souls for the Kingdom of God and His glory, we might think we have plenty of time. The truth Jesus is presenting is that our lives are limited in time according to His plans. We need to redeem the time we have.

The other thought that comes to me is, we don’t see accurately how close a person is to receiving Jesus. It may to us look like a long way off, but through the eyes of Jesus, they are ready. Jesus teaches us this in Mark 4. He says there are things we don’t know, but when the harvest is ripe, we should immediately put in the sickle.

Are you looking to and ready to harvest? Pray to the Lord of the harvest and be ready. The day draws nigh.

In Christ Alone,

Pastor David
