These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee.” – John 17:1
As we begin our thoughts of the death and resurrection of Jesus, it is good to view His heart of prayer. Working through His prayer, you find that Jesus prays for his disciples and also for you and I who come to faith later through the ministry of the Church. However, it is good to note how He begins. Addressing his Father the topic is glorification. In this coming hour when Jesus will give His life for the redemption of man, his first thought is that God would be glorified. Everything Christ did or said was meant to be to this end. I wonder how our prayer life might change if this was our first and most important desire? In verse ten, Jesus says that he is glorified in us. Perhaps He might be, if we made that our ultimate goal. Praying in the Father’s will is to pray for Him to be exalted and praised!
