“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal: But the things which are not seen are eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:18
Half the year has passed…. that is hard for me to believe. The longer I live, the more truthful the saying, “Time flies”. And wisdom does come with age. How we view things changes over time. The things we used to focus on begin to receive more of a glance than a stare. Within half a year’s time material things have come and gone, my body has aged, and I can do little about either.
All of this leads me to understand Solomon’s thoughts on the vanity of everything under the sun. How this teaches me to look not at seen things, but the unseen. The halfway mark of the year is a good time to examine your focus. If you find your days filled with frustration and anxiety, perhaps you are looking at the wrong things. Turn your look upwards and see the Eternal One. In him are promises that never fade or pass away.
Lord, open our eyes to see you!
In Christ Alone,
