Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
For he satisfies the longing soul with goodness.
Psalm 107:8-9
August is upon us and so is the Richland County Fair. My family and I are fair goers. We look forward to the kids and grand-kids coming home at this time of year! When I was a child, I remember the excitement of the fair. As many hours as possible were spent there. However, I also remember the sadness when it was over. It seemed to come and go so fast. As entertaining as it was, it was not fulfilling.
Here in the Psalms, the writer gives us the answer to what we all long for. To experience the goodness of God and praise Him for it! There are plenty of things to enjoy in this world, including the fair. I still enjoy meeting up with people I haven’t seen in awhile. Taking my grand-kids on rides makes me smile. And eating a not-so-healthy menu of fried foods is fun. But, none of these things are lasting. They begin to fade when you walk out of the gate.
Only Jesus can satisfy your longings. Seek Him and His goodness. We were meant for Him.
In Christ Alone,
Pastor David
