“A father to the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” – Psalm 68:5
And suddenly Father’s Day is upon us! It is hard to believe nearly half the year has passed already.
When you look to the Lord in scripture, it is hard to miss His thoughts on those whose homes lack fathers. Looking at the culture we live in, it is equally easy to see why. Sociologists tell us absentee fathers are a leading cause of many of our problems. Dads play a fundamental role in the home and the Lord has equipped men to fill these positions. The devil has done a good job of distracting fathers. There is also a growing assault of masculinity, calling it toxic. The bottom line is, we need more masculine men in the home. Men that will sacrificially provide and protect our wives and children. The fact that this is not done perfectly doesn’t warrant abolishing the role, rather we should encourage and reward men who demonstrate these qualities.
Our children need fathers to look up to and while looking up, they may catch sight of Jesus.
In Christ Alone,
