Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. – Luke 2:14
Any bible scholar knows this is the proclamation of the many angels who appeared at the birth of Jesus to the shepherds in the field. What a glorious sight that must have been for the keepers of the flock. Angels in multitude would have been frightening, and so “fear not” was the first word spoken.
As I have thought about this, it occurs to me that the messengers only have a witness view. They were not the recipients of this news; we are. The message of redemption is for man alone. This is why John 3:16 is so important to you and I. Paul expresses it this way, “to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself.” (2 Cor. 5:19a).
Think of it this way… You are at a ball game and you witness your team’s win; you cheer of course. But for the team, they have won the victory, and they rejoice in celebration! That is a different song… One reserved for the team. For us, this is the song of the redeemed, only to be sung by those who have believed and received Christ as their personal Savior! To gather around the throne, the angels looking on in awe, and we, His saints, singing “Glory be to God!!”
Why not sing now!!!!
In Christ Alone,
Pastor David
